Writing Music Against a Bass Guitar?

Is it possible to write an entire song against a bass guitar? At the moment, there’s only two of us in the band we are starting and the other band mate can only play the bass guitar. I’m vocalist. Is it possible to write a melody or tune against this instrument? Any tips?
